Social Justice in Yemen

date. 2021

This project brief was about how Yemen has faced social justice issues like malnutrition, death and health systems collapsing. My job was to assist Doctors Without Borders in helping the people of this country.

My challenge was creating designs and ideas that were culturally appropriate for Yemen due to not wanting to offend anyone. My other struggle was getting people to want to donate to a country that doesn’t have anything to do with them.

My goal was to help raise money in various ways to help the people in need as well as get people’s attention from all over the world.

By creating a new organization, Yield to Yemen, I was able to create a unique solution which was to create a worldwide food drive where people could donate canned goods in grocery stores to be sent over to help with malnutrition. I also chose to partner with coffee shops, since the city is a major hub of the coffee trade and caffe mocha derives its name from Yemen, where once you buy a coffee, part of the proceeds will go to help the country.
